The Release

For Sydney's birthday her Grammy and Papa Australia ordered a butterfly habitat where she could experience and watch as the caterpillars morphed into beautiful "painted lady" butterflies. I truly think it has been one of our favorite gifts ever! The caterpillars eat for about 7 days and then form their chrysalides in which they miraculously transform themselves. About a week later we were gifted with 5 perfect butterflies that we watched over a few days.

Knowing how short their delicate lives are, we released them in the morning on the fourth day (I am sure the butterflies had experienced SO much at that point...they survived 2 young and curious girls, a set of 2 year old twins which seemed to be fascinated as well, having been left outside at a neighbors, and 2 car rides). We hope they are happy in our garden and find their lives fulfilling! They have definately enhanced ours!

What a fun gift!! And it's so crazy to see that you only have 36 days to go on your countdown - mine still has 153. Makes mine seem like forever away!

Oh! I've been wanting to get one of these for my kiddos! It sounds like such a great learning experience.
That picture with the butterfly on her nose is perfect!
